HOW TO DESIGN YOUR RESEARCH PROPOSAL?

Hope you all are doing good,

In this blog I will be mentioning about the steps that are to be followed in the preparation of your research proposal. We all understand that research is an ongoing process. As researchers we might think that at one point of time we have arrived at a particular conclusion but yes we all understand that that's not the end of it as there is always scope for further improvement and new modifications to be made  and new additions by fellow researchers. A research proposal is significant due to that fact that it is a basic  layout of the entire research plan that we wish to proceed with. All the discussions that would be done here will be from the social science perspective.

Now lets proceed with the different steps that are to be included in the research proposal. A research proposal is required at a stage like when a particular student has completed his/her post graduation in any subject lets say for students who have completed their post graduation in Education (M.A in Education/M.Ed in Education) if he/she pursues to move ahead for research in the field of Education and are willing to join any higher Educational Institutions for pursuing their Ph.D in Education than they are required to submit their research proposal in accordance with their area of interest. I would like to elaborate this further like as in many other subjects in Humanities and Sciences in the subject Education there are particular areas in which the students can pursue their research like Information and communication Technology, Teacher Education, Science Education, Early Childhood Care and Education and many others. So after coming in terms with your area of interest you can go for working upon the topic that you plan to take as part of your Ph.D. work. Like if my specified area of interest is Early Childhood care and Education my topic that I can carry out as part of my research work could be "A Study of the Anganwadi Centres of Sonitpur District". Remember you should be very careful in the designing of the title of the study as it contains  the brief idea regarding the research work that you will be carrying out. Now specifically coming to the steps that comprise a research proposal I would mention it in a sequence starting with-

Introduction

Rationale of the study

Objectives of the study

Research Questions/hypothesis

Methodology of the study

The methodology part is considered to be very significant as it contains the details regarding the population and the sample of the study along with the details of the tools that are to be used for the purpose of data collection including the sampling process.

Significant Findings of the study

Analysis of the research findings

Scope for further research

Conclusion

References

In this blog I will be mentioning about the ways in which you can design  a write up for your Ph.D. interview. Often it is seen that you are asked to write in brief  a note relating to the research work that you plan to carry as part of your Ph.D. Important it is to understand about the ways in which you can develop your write-up keeping certain things in your mind while designing it like-the clarity relating to your topic, the terms being mentioned etc. Let's understand what a write -up relating to your research work or research proposal is all about from a researcher's perspective-in this context you should keep in mind that you are not expected to elaborate every part of your research work to be undertaken. Rather the panel of experts wants to see your clarity relating to the work that you wish to carry.

CERTAIN THINGS TO BE KEPT IN MIND WHILE DESIGNING A WRITE-UP

The things which should be kept in  mind while designing your write up are-

1.The title of the study that is to be mentioned in capital letters.

2. A brief note on the title focusing on the importance of the topic being chosen for the purpose of the study.

3.Emphasis on the importance of the idea being chosen.

So overall as a researcher you should work upon your idea in such a way so that when the panel of experts go through the title of your study they get the idea about what the work will be all about. Your idea note should cover the basic understanding relating to your topic.

WORD OF CAUTION

Remember friends, you are not expected to write an essay. Rather you should be very precise about the idea note, be careful in the use of technical terms like for example when you chose your idea as Teacher Education and write a topic relating to the recommendations being made in the National Education Policy  2020 relating to Teacher Education you must be very well aware about the terms like ITEP which refers to Integrated Teacher Education Programme.

The tricky part here is to be mindful of the process in which you can get your seat in the long list of other fellow researchers. What you have to keep in mind is your motive behind writing the idea note, All you want is a place where you can start your research work.

Follow your dreams and before final submission of your idea based write up go through it multiple times.

MY PERSONAL EXPERIENCE

Here I would like to share my own personal experience which I had while designing my write up. I was very clear with the research topic that I wished to pursue as part of my Ph.D. work. So while designing my idea it was just a cake walk for me and I could do it very easily. So friends what it requires to design a best write up is your clarity and the passion that drives the research work that you wish to carry. My best wishes to each one of you.
