I have come to believe that a great teacher is a great artist and there are as few as there are any other great artists. Teaching might even be the greatest of the arts since the medium is the human mind and spirit.

The National Education Policy 2020 envisages that the extant 10+2 structure in school education will be modified with a new pedagogical and curricular restructuring which is 5+3+3+4.This new structure as envisaged by National Education Policy 2020 covers the age 3-18.

Foundational Stage

As per the new structure the Foundational stage covers 3 years for children in the age group of 3-6 where children learn by becoming part of Anganwadi/pre-school/Balvatika.

Preparatory Stage

The Preparatory Stage comprises of 3 years which includes the age group of children from 8-11. The classes include 3-5.

Middle Stage

Thus, the National Education Policy 2020 envisages a shift in the form of a New Pedagogical & Curricular Structure from the Previous academic structure which was 10+2.10 years in the Previous Academic Structure comprise of learners in the age group of 6-16 years of age and the 2 years comprise of learners in the age group of 16- 18 years of age.

By 2030, only educationally sound, multidisciplinary, and integrated teacher education programmes shall be in force. (National Education Policy, Para 15.3)

In reference to the 4-year integrated teacher education programme National Education Policy 2020 mentions -

Moreover, all stand-alone TEIs will be required to convert to multidisciplinary institutions by 2030, since they will have to offer the 4-year integrated teacher education programme.
